| | | | Jags heads Everton to victory | | | | A Phil Jagielka bullet header provided Everton with a victory over Preston at Deepdale. In an entertaining game, Everton looked a much improved outfit, offering more penetration in attacks, and looking generally solid in defence.
Jose Baxter looked bright and dangerous, striking the crossbar with a magnificent effort from 30 yards. The 16 year old had a very promising game, looking confident on the ball in particular.
Iain Turner however looked rather suspect once again. Barring a good save during the first half, the Scottish keeper looked incredibly nervy, often making impractical decisions and putting the defence under needless pressure.
Mikel Arteta got his fifteen minute cameo to the delight of the Toffee faithful, sparking the Everton side into life in the process. Moments after his arrival, Dutch winger Andy Van der Meyde struck a thunderbolt from all of 30 yards which was tipped over well.
Everton looked comfortable throughout, which proved a pleasant change from their previous two encounters. Nottingham Forest await on Friday and undoubtedly, David Moyes will be delighted to register a first win of the campaign, regardless of the opposition.
The victory will have, to a degree, renewed faith in those Evertonians who are desperately craving the arrival of new signings. Signings still must be made, but a victory is a victory, and we’ll definitely take it.
Up the Toffees....discuss this on the forums
