| | | | Moutinho bids keep on rising | | | | Everton are reported in Portuguese media as having placed a bid of 21.1 million Euros for Sporting Lisbon's Joao Moutinho.
The player has a release clause of 25 million Euros, but apparently a clause in his contract states that if Sporting reject bids of above 15 million Euros, that they must pay him 10% of that fee, in 10 installments, to keep him at the club. ( [link] )
Everton's bid is thought to have come via Moutinho's agent, Pini Zahavi - the man who took Yakubu from Portsmouth to Middlesbrough and apparently made £3m out of the move - who has been meeting with Sporting's representatives.
Zahavi was slammed during Lord Stevens investigation into corrupt football agents, and was described by former Chelsea chairman as a "dickhead" - but after having brought Manuel Fernandes to Everton, and having the potential to bring Moutinho to Goodison, it appears the Everton board have a different view.
Zahavi is said to be working very hard to bring the player to Everton and although his initial bid was not considered a formal approach, a further bid is expected soon, which could see Sporting losing either the player or large sums of money if they continue to reject bids!
