Sky Sports are reporting that Andrew Johnson was withdrawn from the Everton squad last night after speaking with Everton officials.
The sports news channel claims that AJ wants to return to London for personal reasons, but Everton have insisted they have received no bids for the player.
Speaking to Evertonians at Cambridge last weekend, Johnson again stated his desire to stay at Everton.
Everton have been linked, albeit very tenuously in The Mirror, to a move for Shaun Wright Phillips.
The Chelsea wide-man has found it hard to settle at Stamford Bridge and cementing a first team place even harder, but it is believed to be Portsmouth that will sign him - if anyone.
Everton CEO, Keith Wyness, has denied that Everton are ready to sell Andrew Johnson to Fulham, and that no bid has been received by the club.
In a statement on the Official Site, the club appears to have rounded on the Liverpool Echo, who suggested that the deal was complete and that AJ was on his way out of the club - supporting stories from other sections of the world's media.
"Contrary to some media reports that have surfaced throughout the course of today, the Club can confirm that no offer has been received nor has any deal been agreed for Andrew Johnson with Fulham Football Club," said Wyness....discuss this on the forums
NSNO understands Everton have agreed a fee of 10.5 million pounds with Fulham for England international Andrew Johnson.
The Everton front man is expected in London today to discuss terms with the club from the cottage. Johnson’s absence from yesterday’s squad against Preston, coinciding with the club’s embarrassing silence on the situation seems to have highlighted AJ will be heading for the exit door.
Johnson has revealed his love for the club on more than one occasion, revealing putting on the blue jersey “fills him with pride”. It is believed he told fans in Switzerland he had no intention of leaving, however it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
Everton have often gone on record to say they’re not a selling club, but bundling Johnson out the backdoor seems to suggest otherwise, considering it would appear the funds are needed for other prospective signings.
Phil Jagielka has admitted that the team got a telling off from David Moyes after the defeat against Cambridge on Saturday, but hopes that his goal, which gave Everton the win over Preston last night, will go some way to making up for it.
“Yes, we got a bit of a telling off from the Gaffer on Saturday,” Jagielka confirmed. “Rightly so. We didn’t perform well, it wasn’t good but the boys showed their character out there and it wasn’t just the older lads.
“The younger lads played their part in a nice victory. When we got 2-1 up against Cambridge, we should have put the game to bed. But it was the pre-season blues. It was warm, the pitch was dry and I don’t think everyone was concentrating 100 per cent.
“Four or five mistakes later, we found ourselves 4-2 down. But with the back four we put out last night, it was Premier League standard. The Gaffer put a lot of emphasis on that beforehand and we were delighted to keep the clean sheet.”...discuss this on the forums
